Structural health monitoring (SHM) has emerged as a crucial technique for assessing the integrity and performance of structures, offering valuable insights into their condition through noninvasive methods. For instance, engineers detect damage and predict the future performance of structures by analyzing dynamic characteristics, such as natural frequencies and mode shapes. From civil engineering structures like bridges and buildings to aerospace systems, marine structures, and industrial machinery, the early identification of structural damage allows for timely intervention, reducing the risk of catastrophic failure and optimizing maintenance efforts. Therefore, this special issue brings together innovative research and developments in SHM, showcasing the latest advancements in sensor technology, data analysis techniques, and damage detection methodologies.

The articles featured in this issue cover many topics, from theoretical frameworks and numerical simulations to practical applications across various sectors, such as civil engineering, aerospace, and mechanical systems. We hope this special issue inspires further research, advances the state of the art in SHM, and contributes to improving the safety of the world’s critical infrastructures.
